Herb & Lime Lab
Purpose: figure out how much dry rice to cook for your table — as a side, as the main event, or as tomorrow’s fried-rice base.
How to use it
- Enter the number of servings.
- Pick the context: side dish, main, or fried-rice base.
- Cook the dry amount shown; it expands to roughly 3× when cooked.
Our assumptions, stated openly: about ½ cup dry rice per person as a side, ¾ cup as a main, and ⅔ cup for a fried-rice base. Grams use ≈185 g per cup of uncooked rice. Cooked yield (≈3× dry volume) varies by variety and method. These are standard culinary estimates, not measurements from our kitchen.
