Ingredient Matcher

Start with what’s already in your kitchen. Pick a few ingredients and we’ll rank the recipes you can cook right now — and show you exactly what’s missing when you’re one ingredient away.

How matching works

Every recipe in the matcher is broken into its ingredients, and each ingredient has a job:

  • Core — the dish depends on it. A missing core ingredient changes what the dish is.
  • Important — strongly shapes the result, but the dish survives without it.
  • Optional & garnish — nice to have; they barely move your score.
  • Pantry basics — salt, oil, water and the like. We never list them as missing.

What the labels mean

  • Ready to Cook — you have every core and important ingredient. Nothing to buy.
  • One Ingredient Away — exactly one core or important ingredient is missing; the card names it.
  • More Ideas — partial matches, closest first.

The percentage on a card is a weighted coverage score: half of it is core-ingredient coverage, with smaller weights for important ingredients and for how much of your selection the recipe actually uses — and a steep penalty when a core ingredient is missing. It is a matching score, not a rating of the recipe.

Substitutes

When a card shows a missing ingredient, check the ingredient’s own page before swapping anything in. Substitutions here are reviewed per ingredient and per context — what works in a broth may not work in a marinade. If we don’t have a reviewed substitute for your situation, we’d rather say so than guess.
