Iced Matcha Latte

A smooth, café-style iced matcha latte made with real matcha powder, a splash of hot water, and cold milk over ice.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder (about 4 grams), sifted
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) hot water, about 175°F (80°C)
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar, honey, or simple syrup, to taste
  • 6 ounces (180 ml) cold milk of choice
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Method

  1. Sift the matcha into a small bowl or measuring cup through a small mesh strainer, pushing out any clumps with the back of a spoon.
  2. Pour the hot water (about 175°F / 80°C) over the matcha. If your kettle just boiled, let it sit for a minute first so the water does not scorch the powder.
  3. Whisk briskly in a zigzag "M" motion for about 20 seconds, until smooth and topped with a thin layer of foam.
  4. Stir the sweetener into the warm matcha until it dissolves.
  5. Fill a tall glass with ice, pour in the cold milk, then slowly pour the whisked matcha over the top for clean layers.
  6. Serve as is for the layered look, or stir before drinking for an even flavor.

Notes

For the prettiest layers, pour the matcha over the back of a spoon held just above the milk. If you skip sweetener entirely, use a sweeter milk (oat milk works well) to balance matcha’s natural bitterness.
